โItโs no surprise that Justice Thomas has kept up his decades-long cozy relationship with billionaire benefactor Harlan Crow with even more lavish jet rides and vacation reimbursements. For years, Thomas has used his position on our nationโs highest court as a way to upgrade his own lifestyle โ and that hasnโt stoppedโฆ Harlan Crow, Justice Thomas, Leonard Leo, and other key players โฆ may believe they exist above the law, but they donโt. We need accountability and reform now.โ - Kyle Herrig, senior adviser to the watchdog groupย Accountable.US

Undisclosed trips from billionaire Republican donor
Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas confirmed he hadย repeatedly accepted travelย from a wealthy Republican donor over more than two decades of friendship, but added that he did not have to report the gifts on annual financial disclosure forms. Thomas has come under fire since ProPublica reported Thursday that the 74-year-old had often traveled aboard Harlan Crowโs superyacht and personal jet โ even vacationing at the billionaireโs private resort in the Adirondacks. The outlet said that some of the excursions would have cost more than $500,000 if the justice and his wife, conservative activist Virginia โGinniโ Thomas, had paid for themselves. - NY Post
So many luxury trips to choose from!
Fishing. "In early July 2008, Samuel Alito stood on a riverbank in a remote corner of Alaska. The Supreme Court justice was on vacation at a luxury fishing lodge that charged more than $1,000 a day, and after catching a king salmon nearly the size of his leg, Alito posed for a picture. To his left, a man stood beaming: Paul Singer, a hedge fund billionaire who has repeatedly asked the Supreme Court to rule in his favor in high-stakes business disputes.
Leonard Leo, the longtime leader of the conservative Federalist Society, attended and helped organize the Alaska fishing vacation. Leo invited Singer to join, according to a person familiar with the trip, and asked Singer if he and Alito could fly on the billionaireโs jet. Leo had recently played an important role in the justiceโs confirmation to the court. Singer and the lodge owner were both major donors to Leoโs political groups." - ProPublica
Italy. A memo offered options including Padua, a โfirst-tier city in a picturesque setting,โ Venice, with its โseven-mile-long-sandbar known as Lidoโ and Bologna, โItalyโs most prestigious academic city.โ A draft handbook for the trip, emailed to Justice Gorsuch, made clear that his teaching responsibilities would be limited to the mornings, leaving plenty of time for excursions, including planned visits to Bologna and Florence.
โFantastico!โ the justice responded.
Luxury yacht in New Zealand. "During a New Zealand trip on Crowโs yacht, Thomas signed a copy of his memoir and gave it to a yacht worker. As a token of his appreciation, he gave one yacht worker a copy of his memoir. Thomas signed the book: โThank you so much for all your hard work on our New Zealand adventure.โ Crowโs policy was that guests didnโt pay, former Michaela Rose staff said. โYou donโt need to worry about this โ itโs all covered,โ one recalled the guests being told. - ProPublica
Lifestyle to make Louis XIV jealous
"One of the things that people find so corrupt isnโt whether particular billionaires were named parties in cases before Thomas.โฏItโs that their economic and political interests were immensely affected by cases before Thomas regardless of whether they were named parties.โฏThomas is rewriting our laws and our Constitution to benefit the wealthiest class of people โ the same class that underwrites a lifestyle that might have made Louis XIV jealous.ย
Itโs no surprise that polls show aย 56 percent disapprovalย rating for the Supreme Court. And for an institution that, as Hamilton said, doesnโt have either โthe sword or the purseโ to impose its authority, trustย isย the only currency.ย By that measure, this court is rapidly going broke โ while individual members live in the lap of luxury",ย saidSvante Myrick, president ofย People For the American Way. - The Hill
